What is polypropylene yarn?
Polypropylene yarn is a synthetic fiber mainly made of polypropylene.
Polypropylene yarn has high strength, good wear resistance, UV resistance and chemical corrosion resistance. Therefore, it is widely used in many industries, such as textiles, automotive industry, building materials, packaging, cables and printing. Polypropylene yarn can be used to make knitted goods, woven fabrics, ropes, meshes, filters, industrial yarns, car belts, harnesses and synthetic materials. Polypropylene is the Chinese trade name for synthetic fiber isotactic polypropylene fiber made from propylene, a byproduct of petroleum refining. It is also called polypropylene fiber. The raw material source is abundant, the production process is simple, and the product is relatively cheaper than synthetic fibers. It is a fiber made from propylene as a raw material through polymerization and melt spinning. Polypropylene officially began industrial production in 1957 and is a rising star among synthetic fibers. Because polypropylene yarn has the advantages of simple production process, low product price, high strength and relatively light density, polypropylene has developed rapidly. At that time, polypropylene was the fourth largest type of synthetic fiber, and it was the most common chemical fiber. Polypropylene yarn has a low density, so the fabric is light and thin. Clothes made of polypropylene fabric do not feel heavy and have good elasticity. The good elasticity of polypropylene makes it an ideal material for making fishing nets and ropes. Polypropylene is resistant to acid, alkali and chemical corrosion, and has good resistance to chemicals such as nitric acid. In addition, polypropylene has quite good wear resistance, and is well used in packaging and filtration materials. Polypropylene has good strength. Although its strength is lower than that of nylon in chemical fibers, its price is much lower than that of nylon. The low cost is suitable for mass production. The thermal conductivity of polypropylene itself is not high, so the warmth retention of polypropylene fabric is still good.
Application of polypropylene yarn:
1. Textile industry
One of the main uses of polypropylene yarn is in the textile industry. Because it has good strength and wear resistance, it can be used to make various clothes, textiles and industrial fabrics. Polypropylene yarn can be used alone or mixed with other fibers. For example, it can be mixed with other fibers such as cotton, wool and nylon to form a variety of different textiles.
2. Packaging materials
Polypropylene yarn can also be used to produce a variety of packaging materials. Its toughness and strength make it ideal for making packaging bags, ropes and meshes. It can also be used to make waterproof cloth, sunshade cloth and various other special-purpose textiles.
3. Industrial uses
Polypropylene yarn can also be used for industrial purposes. It can be used to make a variety of industrial fabrics, such as filter cloth or filters, and can also be used to produce a variety of industrial ropes and cables. Nylon yarn can also be used to produce a variety of industrial insulation materials.
4. Medical uses
Polypropylene yarn can also be used for medical purposes. It can be used to make a variety of medical fabrics, such as surgical gowns, masks, gloves and bandages. Nylon yarn can also be used to make a variety of medical supplies, such as infusion bags and drug packaging bags.
5. Sports supplies
Polypropylene yarn can also be used to produce a variety of sports supplies. Its strength and wear resistance make it ideal for making a variety of sports shoes, sportswear and accessories. Nylon yarn can also be used to make a variety of meshes and ropes for sports purposes.
Features of polypropylene yarn
1. Lightness:
Polypropylene yarn is a lightweight yarn with low weight, low moisture regain and almost no moisture absorption, so it has good warmth retention and breathability.
2. Strong and tough:
It has high strength and good wear resistance, which makes polypropylene yarn very suitable for making durable products such as fishing nets, cables and filter cloths.
3. Not easy to deform:
Polypropylene yarn has excellent resilience and is not easy to break and deform, which allows it to maintain its shape after washing and not easy to wrinkle.
4. Good chemical stability:
Polypropylene yarn has good resistance to acids and alkalis, so it is suitable for occasions that require chemical corrosion resistance, such as filter materials and packaging materials.
5. Good electrical insulation:
It is suitable for products that require good electrical insulation.
6. Lightweight and warm:
Polypropylene fiber is the lightest fiber among common chemical fibers. It hardly absorbs moisture, but has good wicking ability, high strength, stable size of the fabric made, good wear resistance and elasticity, and good chemical stability. But: poor thermal stability, not resistant to sunlight, easy to age and brittle. Uses: can be used to weave socks, mosquito nets, quilts, thermal padding, diapers, etc. Industrial: carpets, fishing nets, canvas, water hoses, medical belts instead of cotton gauze, making sanitary products.
